Player Spotlight; Chris Williams

DJ Boyer  |Feb 10,2008

One of the hot names moving up the draft boards these days is Chris Williams. Williams was first looked at as an early day two prospect. Williams then moved into day one status and is now a first round prospect.

*Chris Williams, Offensive Tackle, Vanderbilt*
Senior, 6-6, 320

*Strengths:* Pass blocking
*Weaknesses:* Upper body strength

*Technique:* Has amazing technique, is known as more of a pass blocking specialist but his technique and form are top notch as a run blocker as well.

*Known Injuries:* No major injuries at Vanderbilt.

*Combine / Workout Assessment:* Coming Soon.

*DJ Boyer's Analysis:* Chris Williams is flying up the draft boards right now. Jake Long and Ryan Clady are seen as the top two prospects but there is no clear cut #3 at this position and it is starting to look like most feel that Chris Williams is that guy. Very hard worker who has a workmanlike overachiever attitude and approach to the game. Very versatile been playing both tackle positions since his sophomore season. Looks to be the best pure pass blocker in this draft and will be looked at hard between picks #11-#20 overall. Stands ground well in short yardage situations but can be pushed around by bull rushers or larger bodies along the interior defensive line. Will need to add mass and bulk at the NFL level as his upper body strength seems to be a bit below average or underdeveloped. Played against some top notch defensive ends in the SEC and held up against the best at the position. Played well at the Senior Bowl and it’s another reason why his stock is soaring. Williams may have moved into the top half of the first round by the time April has arrived.
