Player Spotlight; Gosder Cherilus

DJ Boyer  |Feb 10,2008

Pete Kendall, Dan Koppen, Tom Nalen, Chris Snee, Ron Stone, Damien Woody, Josh Beekman and James Marten…the list seems to be never-ending when it comes to quality Boston College offensive linemen in the NFL. Gosder Cherilus looks to be the next name on that list as he projects as a 1^st /2^nd round pick in April.

*Gosder Cherilus, Offensive Tackle, Boston College*
Senior, 6-7, 315

*Strengths:* Wingspan
*Weaknesses:* Inconsistent

*Technique:* Shows good technique and quickness, can be used at either tackle position.

*Known Injuries:* Very durable while at Boston College, has had minor injuries and played through all of them.

*Combine / Workout Assessment:* Coming Soon.

*DJ Boyer's Analysis:* Cherilus is always a player I have been very high on. I felt he could have left after his junior season but staying as a senior seems to have been a good move. Had a strong regular season and saw time at the left and right tackle positions. While one would think this versatility would help Cherilus it may actually hurt him. At the Senior Bowl Cherilus was used on both sides and showed to be terribly inconsistent in one-on-one drills. Needed more double team help then many would have been comfortable seeing. One has to wonder if the team taking Cherilus needs to have him commit to one position and not have the versatile athlete as advertised. Thing is when Cherilus is on he is untouchable. He may have the best wingspan of any of the top tackles as his arms seem to never end. Needs to be a little more forceful and physical in the running game and play with more of a mean streak. Cherilus claimed he was a little concerned he was overshadowed by James Marten last year and needed another year at BC to show he could be a leader along the line. That portion was accomplished, if Cherilus shows the right team he is consistent and settles into one spot along the line he could be a big steal in New York.
