Jonathan Stewart may be the #2 running back on the board after Darrin McFadden. He could be the best receiver of all of the top prospects and he is a load to bring down at over 230 pounds. Jonathan Stewart Running Back Oregon Junior 5-10 235 Strengths: Size and speed combination Weaknesses: Durability Statline: 1,798 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground as a junior. Technique: Shows decent speed in the open field but is more of a shifty runner who has the size to break tackles on a consistent basis. Known Injuries: Dealing with injury issues right now which could affect his draft status. Has a tor injury at the moment and has suffered ankle and knee injuries during his first two years at Oregon. Will be a lot of questions about his health surrounding him. Combine / Workout Assessment: 4.48 40-yard dash with a 36.5 inch vertical leap. Impressive 29 reps at 225 pounds on the bench press. DJ Boyer's Analysis: Stewart may be my favorite back in this draft outside of Darren McFadden and I feel he is a player that is somewhat overlooked. The one thing about Stewart that makes everyone weary is his past history of injuries and he has dealt with some sort of issue involving injury in each of his three seasons at Oregon. Toe injury that is currently causing concerns doesn’t seem to be affecting his speed or status as he has impressed a number of teams who have brought him in for a workout. Doesn’t have the impressive receiving statistics you are looking for from a bigger back but that had more to do with the offense in Oregon as he has the ability to be a 50-catch back as a featured runner in the NFL without question. Has just enough speed to be dangerous in the return game and is a great blocker who can also get you the necessary yards in short yardage or goal line situations. Versatility and the number of situations Stewart can be used in will still land him in the first round as a team takes a gamble on him staying healthy.
