Player Spotlight; Lawrence Jackson

When you break down the film of Lawrence Jackson you see a player without any major deficiencies in his game. He is a well-rounded prospect due to the fact that he is moved around the line and has played inside on occasion

Lawrence Jackson                       Defensive End                       USC
Senior, 6-4, 270

Strengths: Run pursuit
Weaknesses: Quickness off the snap

Statline: Best year at USC as a senior with 60 tackles with 17 for loss and 10.5 sacks. Had 52 tackles for loss over four year career.

Technique: Terrific technique, keeps hands in good position and gets inside opposing tackles. Also a well-rounded prospect due to the fact that he is moved around the line and has played inside on occasion with his large frame and excelled.

Known Injuries:  Very durable career at USC which saw no major injuries.

Combine / Workout Assessment: 4.81 in the 40-yard dash and an impressive 31 reps at 225 pounds in the bench press.

DJ Boyer's Analysis: When you break down the film of Lawrence Jackson you see a player without any major deficiencies in his game. Is a strong end who can push his way through defenders with brute strength and take up a lot of space. One of the best run-stopping defensive ends in the draft whose run/pass skill recognition is off the charts. Was durable at USC and a four year starter with a vast array of experience that is a pleasure to coach and doesn’t have any off the field baggage. Biggest downside is Jackson may not be a standout in any particular area other than run pursuit and defensive ability against the run. Has good size and is a well conditioned athlete who rarely seems to be tired. A natural leader who can call defensive alignments and shifts. Encouraging to see that many of his best performances came against top level competition and in big spots. Is a lock to be a second round pick but has a chance to go in the first round.
