Player Spotlight; Matt Ryan His interception numbers may be a little high and he may not be the most athletic player at his position but nobody has better mechanics than Matt Ryan. He was the main force behind the very successful campaign that Boston College had that culminated in their eighth straight bowl win (longest streak in college football) and an appearance in the ACC Championship Game. *Matt Ryan Quarterback Boston College* Senior 6-5 225
*Strengths:* Mechanics and poise *Weaknesses*: Forcing balls in tough situations leading to interceptions *Statline:* 4,507 yards passing and 31 touchdowns as a senior, both numbers placed him among the leaders in both categories. *Technique:* Footwork is amazing and poise and leadership on the field is unquestionable. Delivbery is still not perfect but it has improved dramatically *Known Injuries:* Had a nagging foot injury as a junior that prevented Ryan from properly stepping into his throws. His long passes would lack velocity and were picked off more than many of the other elite college football quarterbacks. *Combine / Workout Assessment:* Coming Soon. *DJ Boyer's Analysis:* There are quarterbacks more athletic, quarterbacks with better and stronger arms, even quarterbacks with better deliveries and releases. When you put all the attributes together you start to see that Ryan emerges from the pack when it comes to the overall contents of the package. He has an arm strong enough to make all the throws at the pro level and will get balls into tight coverage packages. Is the type of quarterback that will throw an interception and come back in the very next series and make the same through at the same defender. Injury to his foot as a junior may have been a blessing in disguise as part of his rehab was spent working solely on footwork. Ryan won’t run very often but he has a 6^th sense when it comes to oncoming pressure. Ryan will hang in the pocket and take the hit if necessary. While Ryan has the five-star tools to make a host of throws his interception rate will continue to be a little high because of the risks and chances he takes. Ryan is fantastic at finding multiple options to throw too and spreads the ball around quite well. Doesn’t get rattled by the blitz and will consistently find hot reads when needed, Should be a top 10 selection and could to the Atlanta Falcons in the top 5. Would like to see Ryan study under an established veteran quarterback for a season or two before getting his shot in the NFL.
