Social D & The Shark's Fantasy Corner for Week 8

Jim Derwin  |Oct 27,2007

Football.com's Social D and The Shark are here for another back and forth to outline Week 8's Fantasy Football strategy.

Holy Schnikes Shark I pulled off the victory last week.  The Kenny Watson
waiver wire pick up saved my butt.  Not only did I beat a team starting
Peyton Manning, but I scored more points than anyone in our league.   Even
with Jason Campbell only passing for 95 yards.  Campbell is playing the Pats
this Sunday and I don't see a big week for him so I am starting Jay Cutler
in his place.  Cutler had a nice game against Pittsburgh last week and teams
have had success throwing against the Packers as their secondary gives up
over 220 yards per game.  RB-wise, Dallas is on their Bye week, which means
I have to bench Marion Barber.  According to Stephen Jackson's blog, he is
playing Sunday and he wants everyone to start him.  He's promising big
things.  I'm going to listen to him.  If he dogs me again this week, I will
do worse than just make him the Douche of the Week.  Lawrence Maroney is
supposed to get more touches this week too so I'm going to start him as
well.  On the receiver side, Cincinatti has one of the worst pass defenses
in the NFL, so I think Hines Ward will get the nod here.  I'm playing
Brandon Marshall at the other spot because I want to double up on Jay
Cutler's performance.  On my flex spot, I could go either Kenny Watson,
Andre Davis, or Laverneus Coles.  Pennington and Coles don't have a history
of dominance against Buffalo.  Kenny Watson's touches are going to go down
now that Rudi Johnson is healthy, and likewise for Andre Davis now that
Andre Johnson is back.  My best option really is Laverneus.  At tight end,
I'm gonna give Dallas Clark some love since Jason Witten is on a Bye.   What
do you think about these starts?

So now that you know what I'm doing, here's what I suggest everyone else do.
Once again I'm not telling you to start Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, etc.,
because if you need that you are a worthless fantasy player and don't
deserve to see my words in type.  Boo ya.

QB
Ben Roethlisberger
Eli Manning
Brian Griese
Derek Anderson
Drew Brees

RB
Brandon Jacobs
LenDale White
Stephen Jackson
Mike Sellers ***Sleeper Special***
Jesse Chatman

WR
Bernard Berrian
Wes Welker
Steve Smith
Donte' Stallworth
Roy Williams

That's my story and I'm stickin with it.  Likewise with the team name "The
Groins."  I guess I'm superstitious but scoring 138 points as soon as I
changed my name?  Hardly a coincidence.

Groins,

Dude, you were simply impressive last week, the old Jimbo came back! Great
move with Watson pick up. I remember our conversation on that one a few
weeks back... Glad that paid off for you, great move. Rudi looks to be a few
weeks out still and with Watson playing so well you know Cincy will not rush
him back. Your quarterback situation is interesting, it really is... You may
look to move a few players brotha to find a more solid option for you. You
have some trade bait as well, Hostetler! Think about that one brotha...
Heck, with Dallas Clark and Jason Witten, you have a solid offer right
there!?

Yes, stay with Ward, he is finally healthy and looked really good back in
the lineup last week. I like Marshall for you as well, especially with Javon
Walker still out. He has become Cutler favorite target and with Cutler going
this week for you, that makes a lot of sense. Let's hope the Denver passing
game remains on track big dog... You have to go with Coles, he has been
getting it done each week and last week he finally broke out for a big one.
You got it brotha, looks like Social D is coming back - I told you so,
you'll be ok. Hell, the Patriots might even start running Maroney and Steven
Jackson is back. Damn, you are looking tough dude. I'd hate to see you in
the first round Jim!

What about my perfect season, can I keep it rolling? I have a few key
players on bye weeks and old G Morg, has a sweet little team going. It
should be very interesting this week for me dude.

Here is my 'watch out' list for week 8. So far I/we have been on point this
year and have received some awesome fan feedback, keep that rolling in and
keep reading Social D and the Shark's weekly fantasy scoop.

Stay away from:

QB

Cleo Lemon vs New York Giants (London England) - This will be a tall task
for the young quarterback back this week across the pond and against a
frightening Giants pass rush. Lemon has had some decent weeks and with his
running ability look for more to come but this week you need to find another
option.

Alex Smith vs New Orleans - Smith will be getting the start after being side
lined with a back and shoulder injury. Look for their to be some rust even
against the 27th ranked Saints pass defense. The 49ers and Alex smith should
get it together this but it won't be this week.

Brett Farve at Denver - The Broncos have added a few new mixes to the
defense in order to supply more pass rush and last week the Bronco unit
without Champ Bailey handled Pittsburg and Ben Roethlisberger. Denver ranks
second in the league in pass defense and with new found defensive energy
look for a few picks from Mr. Farve.

RB

Ahman Green at San Diego - Even with the distractions this week in southern
California, the Charger defense will be ready to shut down the Texans
running attack. Green is a decent third or flex option but is still not
fully healthy and with a San Diego defense focused on stopping the Texans
running game before anything else, I would look else where for 10 plus
points.

Kevin Jones at Chicago - The comeback story continues for Jones this week in
Chicago but look for a different ending this time. The former first round
pick has been looking back to his old ways and last week, he hit the 100
yard mark for the first time this season- congrats! But with the Bears this
week, look for much less. How does 40 yards and a possible touchdown sound? Hey could just break out again though for another 100 yard game though...

Jamal Lewis at St. Louis - For those of you planning to start Lewis, don't.
His foot is still ailing and with the Browns able to pass the ball so
effectively this year, look for them to use more pass packages until Lewis
is fully healthy.

WR

Marvin Harrison at Carolina - One of the Panthers primary objectives Sunday
will be to disrupt Harrison and Manning. Harrison has finally begun to show
his age this year as he has missed recent games and has not posted a
touchdown since week 1. He is still a good third option this week but don't
look for Marv to be back, full-force until week 10.

Donald Driver at Denver - Driver has had a solid year so far and with Farve
looking like his is 35, look for this to continue. Just not this week
against Champ Baily & Co. The Broncos pass defense is sick and with a new
found rush defense, they just got better. Driver will be blanketed all game.

Lee Evans at New York Jets - Evans is back on my list even after posting 98
yards last week. He has looked to more in synch with Trent Edwards so look
for a big game or two here soon but this week I don't see the Bills passing
offense on fire, even against the league's 26th ranked pass defense.

Nice stuff brotha... Keep it rolling this week, must win I'd say!? I'll
touch base with you this weekend my friend!
