Staying in the Mix It rained in the Georgia Dome last night. It rained in so many ways. Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints went off, controlling the game from the onset and racking up offensive stats that were similar to the Saints squad we came to know in 2006. Getting right down to brass tacks, those of us that consider ourselves fans of the New Orleans Saints, can't truly be disappointed with this season. Given the uncertainty of personnel due to injuries, the Saints still have the opportunity to finish the season with only one less win than in 2006, and are still in the playoff hunt. There's a monster magic IF surrounding the Saints and their remaining three games. They have two home games vs. Arizona and Philadelphia, followed by a season ending match-up with last season's NFC Championship opponent, Chicago Bears. The Saints have an great shot at getting into the playoffs if they can win out. There's that IF. It will take 4 consecutive wins for the Saints to stay in the race, as they hunt for that lucrative 6th and final playoff spot held by the Minnesota Vikings. New Orleans holds the tie breaker over the flock of 6-7 NFC squads, and are a game back from the new and improved Purple People. More than likely, the Saints will have to make their run without Reggie Bush, as he's currently sidelined with a torn PCL - an injury that won't require surgery, yet may land the 22 year old super-athlete on IR before the 2007 season is in the books. For the Saints, this may be the best of things, as it forces Sean Payton to call the game a bit more conservatively. Last night it proved highly successful, and as much as Reggie Bush hates watching from the sidelines, he got an unfamiliar perspective that should serve to make him a better player in the NFL. Yes. The Saints made it rain vs. the woeful Atlanta Falcons on Monday night, yet there was a much darker storm brewing in the Georgia Dome. The talk, the buzz and the energy cast a dark cloud over a game with playoff implications for one of the teams, due to the ongoing saga of Michael Vick. He did the crime, now he'll do the time...23 months to be exact. You do the crime, you do the time...that's what we're taught. Ask those who have committed crimes against society and humanity: Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton...O.J. Simpson. You do the crime...you do the time. No, I'm not saying Mr. Vick does not deserve to be punished, but I am stating in absolute fashion that the United States Judicial Branch doesn't always "work."
