Suit Him Up! Who is that unmasked man? I see no Roman collar, nor any holy water – but he's definitely a Priest...of the Holmes brotherhood. The Chiefs willingness to deal Michael Bennett early this week signified one thing – Priest Holmes will soon return to the field. And reports from the Chiefs camp are spreading like wildfire that he may see action this weekend vs. the much improved Oakland Raiders. Apparently there is a lot of life left in the legs of #31, and he could offer yet another dimension to an improving Kansas City offense. No doubt, Chiefs fans are hoping for more than that, they're hoping for the miraculous. Although the men from Arrowhead started the season looking like they could easily finish 6 – 10, they're now looking as if they could pull off 9 – 7, or dare I say...10 – 6. “OK, Sheldon, lay off the sauce, brother...there's no way the Chiefs are finishing 10 – 6.” Sure, it's a possibility as opposed to a probability, but a few positive results from such an inspiring Priest Holmes comeback should earn the Chiefs a few tight wins in the division. The Chiefs have proven they can play through adversity, and 6 games into their season, they're still in the hunt for the post-season, and that's all a team can hope for – especially a team such as the Chiefs who have yet to gel as a unit. There are a lot of new players in key positions trying to figure out exactly how they fit into the formula for victory. First, fixing the gaping holes in the line was the key issue – the line is still a work in progress, but much improved. Second, a threat from the wide receiver position was needed during Eddie Kennison's absence – enter rookie Dwayne Bowe, playing far beyond expectation. Third, the return of everyone's favorite Priest will offer Damon Huard incredible opportunity to check down to some big play potential on 3rd down. The field will be spread, Tony Gonzalez will continue to add to his record touchdown catches by a tight end (Congrats, by the way, big fella – not too shabby for a basketball player!) and Larry Johnson will continue to pound between the tackles until that line can get him into the secondary. So. See there. 10 – 6...not entirely unlikely. Regardless of what happens with the Chiefs throughout the remainder of the 2007 season, it will be as awesome as awesome gets to see Priest Holmes take the football field once again on Sunday afternoons. It seemed obvious that he was far from done when he was forced to “momentarily” leave the game, and it will be a wonderful homecoming when he takes the field at Arrowhead vs. Green Bay on 11/04.
