The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly (Week 14)

Blondie (The Good)

1. New England Patriots: Now that their toughest remaining opponent was demolished, perfection is clearly a reality.

2. Indianapolis Colts: Welcome back to the #2 spot Indy. You blew away Baltimore the way New England was supposed to but didn’t.

3. Dallas Cowboys: Since it took a Romo TD pass to Jason Witten with 18 seconds left in regulation to squeak by the hapless Lions, I had no choice but to knock them down a peg. They are still the team to beat in the NFC.

4. Green Bay Packers: It’s looking more and more likely that we’ll get the rematch we all want in the NFC Championship. If the Cowboys somehow slip up and that game is played in Green Bay, things could be interesting.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars: Once David Gerrard lifts his team to the point where they are beating the elite teams rather than just beating the teams they should, he will be recognized as one of the best quarterbacks in football.

6. Pittsburgh Steelers: It’s almost 2008 and the NFL has been around for a long time. Do teams still not understand the concept of keeping your mouth shut so you don’t give your opponent any bulletin board material?

7. San Diego Chargers: The Chargers are on pace to finish 11-5. Not bad for a team that started 1-3. Lorenzo Neal’s injury is a big setback as LDT was just finding his groove. Hopefully that won’t impact their progress too badly.

8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Sunday’s loss to the Texans proves this team needs Jeff Garcia at quarterback if they are going to win anything in January.

9. Seattle Seahawks: Once again Seattle is quietly putting together a solid season despite their lack of a running game. I said it before and I’ll say it again… Matt Hasselbeck is one of the best QBs in the league.

10. Cleveland Browns: Cleveland will be competitive with any team they play because their offense can just flat out score almost anytime.

11. Minnesota Vikings: Winners of 4 in a row, ladies and gentlemen, here is your 2007-08 sleeper!

12. NY Giants: They aren’t winning pretty but they are winning. Their wild card berth is basically locked up now.

13. Buffalo Bills: The Bills can put a huge hole in Cleveland’s playoff hopes with a win on Sunday. This will be my game of the week.

14. Tennessee Titans: Tennessee losing to the Chargers in OT pretty much put their post season dream off another year.

Angel Eyes (The Bad)

15. Arizona Cardinals: Sure Arizona is most likely missing the playoffs again, but the way Ken Wisenhut and Kurt Warner have made the Cardinals competitive was one of the best storylines of this season.

16. Philadelphia Eagles: This was Philly’s last shot at a title run if you ask me. They are going to lose a lot in the off season and will be rebuilding for the next few years.

17. New Orleans Saints: Another team who usually beats the teams they should but don’t have the defense to stop any of the good teams in the league.

18. Washington Redskins: If Todd Collins can somehow lead the Redskins to win out the regular season, that involves beating the Vikings and that should allow them to leap frog them into the playoffs.

19. Denver Broncos: That was total domination on the Broncos’ part over the Chiefs. That one win, though, can’t fix a very inconsistent and disappointing season in Denver.

20. Chicago Bears: Is Donovan McNabb the long term solution for a quarterback in Chicago? No but if they can protect him and he stays healthy, the Bears are much improved team.

21. Detroit Lions: Almost pulled off the upset of the year. That seems to be the trend this season. Subpar teams coming close to beating the elite teams but in the end, they can’t close the deal.

22. Houston Texans: At this point in the list you just have to find silver linings. The good news for Houston is they know they have a solid back up in Sage Rosenfells. He’ll come in handy because it appears Matt Schaub’s tolerance for pain ranks right up there with a 2 year old.

23. Cincinnati Bengals: Now that the Bengals have seemingly found an offensive and defensive combo, they have climbed out of the Ugly group. Don’t make me regret this Marvin.

Tuco (The Ugly)

24. Kansas City Chiefs: OK the Chiefs are finally back to Earth after their 4-3 start. Now this is the team I watched on HBO during the summer.

25. Baltimore Ravens: I’m sure I’m among many looking forward to who the Ravens draft. While some think they should pick up a quarterback, I think they need to start rebuilding this aging defense.

26. Oakland Raiders: The Raider love fest couldn’t last forever. They had to play a decent team eventually.

27. Carolina Panthers: Should John Fox be fired this year? Is it his fault his top two QBs got hurt? Jon Gruden lost his top two running backs and his Bucs are on their way to clinching the NFC South.

28. St. Louis Rams: Ah, the season that could’ve been in St. Louis. One could argue no team has suffered more due to injuries.

29. NY Jets: I can’t wait for the next Mangini / Belichek awkward man-hug.

30. San Francisco 49ers: The Niners have a new fan base in the New England area. However they are rooting for them to keep losing. The Patriots have a chance to snag a # 2 pick out of San Fran’s putrid season.

31. Atlanta Falcons: Once again Redman and Roddy White hooked up for a score. Hey, Michael Vick just got 23 months in Federal “pound-me-in-the-butt” Prison, and Bobby Petrino quit. I’m just looking for silver linings here.

32. Miami Dolphins: I thought Cam Cameron was a decent coach but clearly his players have given up and I don’t see any sign that any of them care if they finish winless.
