The Shark's Six-Pack Through Week 4

Jeremiah O. Sarkett  |Oct 02,2007

Week 4 is in the books and what a week it was! The underdog teams came out again and tore it up. There were some changes in the six-pack after another week of NFL action -- it's fantastic! Check back every Tuesday to see if your team has climbed into my top six or if there were any significant changes in the rankings.

The rankings are based on offensive/defensive statistics, wins, etc, etc. But more importantly, these rankings are set from our fans and my personal opinions each week. Your voice is heard on Football.com so get your two cents in and enjoy one on the Shark- The Shark’s Six-Pack every Tuesday.

AFC

1.    New England Patriots (4-0) -- The Patriots cruised again last night as Tom Brady and Randy Moss continue to thrash opposing defenses. The Bengals had no chance on Monday Night Football as Brady and Moss hooked up twice and even without Lawrence Maroney, the Pats were still able to run the ball effectively. Sammy Morris had 21 carries for 121 yards and a touchdown in the victory. The Patriots also frustrated the explosive Bengal offense. Carson Palmer had two interceptions and Chad Johnson was limited to just three catches. Circle your calendars, November 4th, Patriots vs. the Colts -- game of the year.
2.    Indianapolis Colts (4-0) -- The Colts led by Peyton Manning & Co. are a legit repeat contender this year. Say what you want about New England and Dallas, but the defending champs continue to amaze each week. Sunday, the Colts train wrecked Denver, 38-20, winning their 11th in a row at home. Even without Bob Sanders and Marvin Harrison, the Colts were just too much for a good Denver squad. This team right now looks better than they did last year and that is after a slew of injuries and off-season transactions. This team will be tested in the coming weeks and this Sunday will be no walk in the park. The upstart Tampa Bay Bucs, Tony Dungy's former team, will test the Colts.
3.    Tennessee Titans (2-1) -- The Titans climb a spot while on a bye thanks to the Pittsburg's loss in Arizona. Vince Young has looked impressive and this weekend we all got to know the 'kid' a bit better. Young's 15 minutes on 60 Minutes was likely his jump-start to stardom, let's see how Young and the Titans play this week with more eyes watching than ever before. The Titans can move to 3-1 with a victory Sunday over the Atlanta Falcons.
4.    Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1) -- The Steelers suffered their first loss of the season Sunday in Arizona. The Steelers failed to get their impressive run game going and after Casey Hampton and Troy Polamalu went down, the defense was picked apart by Kurt Warner and Matt Leinart. Ben Roethlisberger was sacked four times and had two big interceptions. Pittsburgh has had somewhat of an easy schedule to start the season. Sunday will be a real test, as Big Ben & Co. will look to bounce back against the surging Seattle Seahawk squad.
5.    Jacksonville Jaguars (2-1) -- The Jaguars used their bye week to rest up and prepare for their biggest game of their season this Sunday against the Chiefs. The Jags travel to Kansas City to tangle with the improving Chiefs who will test the Jaguars offense that has yet to find its groove. The Chiefs and Larry Johnson are starting to warm up and this game should be one of the best of the week. This is a tough stretch for the Jaguars as they square off against Indianapolis and Houston in the next two weeks. The Jags need two wins here but are not going to get it if they can't get their run game going. Let's see what happens this Sunday.
6.    Denver Broncos (2-1) -- Denver hangs on to the sixth spot this week after the 38-20 loss to Indianapolis because they had their chances against Indy and just missed them. Denver is tied for first in the under-achieving AFC West. The Broncos have a big game this Sunday against the Chargers, which should tell us a lot about these Broncos -- we will know how real this Bronco squad is come Sunday afternoon. After blasting the Colts in the first half with the run game, Jay Cutler and Denver were never able to get the passing game going in the second half and with Peyton Manning firing on all-cylinders, running the ball was not enough.

Honorable Mention

Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs

NFC

1.    Dallas Cowboys (4-0) -- The Dallas Cowboys may be the new, 'Greatest Show on Turf' as they have been dominating offensively. The NFC's top rated offense dismantled St. Louis Sunday, out-gaining the Rams 502-187. Dallas has not been tested this year and it will be interesting to see how this team plays coming from behind. We may be waiting a while to see this though as this week, Dallas looks to lit-up Buffalo. Wade Phillips has the defense playing better as they held Marc Bulger and Torry Holt in check -- Bulger was held under 200 yards. The Cowboys are 4-0 and are off to the team's best start since 1995.
2.    Green Bay Packers (4-0) -- The Pack are back, the shifting of power in the NFC is complete -- Dallas and Green Bay are the teams to beat. What more can you say about Brett Favre and the Packers run this year? Favre has the Packers 4-0 and leading the NFC North. Sunday the ol' gunslinger was just awesome leading Green Bay past Minnesota as he had 344 yards and two big touchdown strikes with zero interceptions. The Packers have the Bears coming to town for a Sunday night brawl, renewing one of the great NFL rivalries. The Bears should prove a tough out for Farve.
3.    Seattle Seahawks (3-1) -- Seattle knocked off division rival San Francisco Sunday, playing stout defense and Matt Hasslebeck picked apart the 49ers secondary in the 23-3 rout. Seattle out-gained San Francisco 371-184 and found production from a variety of playmakers on offense. Julian Peterson and Marcus Trufant led the way on defense. Lately, Seattle has been playing defense with a chip on their shoulders and with the offense beginning to gel this team looks tough to beat. This Sunday's game with Pittsburgh is going to be a big time test for this team and is one of the more intriguing games from week 5.
4.    Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1) -- Tampa Bay moved into first place in the NFC South with an impressive win Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Tampa Bay is the real sleeper team of the NFC this year and with Garcia at the helm, this team looks like a serious threat. Garcia has not thrown an interception this year and is getting great blocking from a line that was too young and too small, mmhhh? The loss of Cadillac Williams should not hurt this team down the stretch, as Michael Pittman and the ever emerging Earnest Graham are capable of carrying the load. The loss of offensive linemen Luke Petigout on the other hand is a concern for this offense.
5.    Detroit Lions (3-1) -- Some questioned the Detroit Lions in my sick-pack last week but this week I should hear less jeering and rightfully so. The Lions rallied past the Bears Sunday with an impressive, league record 34 point fourth quarter. The Lions offense is one of the best in the entire NFL and with the reemergence of running back Kevin Jones, this offense will be a tough nut to crack, especially as the year progresses. Detroit is now 3-1 for the first time since 2004 and have already matched last year's win total. Jon Kitna boasted earlier in preseason that the Lions would win ten games and a month into the season the Lions are 30 percent there.
6.    Arizona Cardinals (2-2) -- The Arizona Cardinals are nearly 4-0 to start the 2007 season under new coach Ken Whisenhunt. as all four of their games have been decided by 10 points or less. The Cardinals stomped the Steelers Sunday in Arizona and delivered a message to the entire NFL that this is not the old Cardinals and there is a new team in the desert now. The Cardinals have been utilizing the 'Two Headed Monster' at quarterback -- Kurt Warner and Matt Leinart are getting it done and are working well as a team, at least for now they are. The duo combined were 21-of-35 for 225 yards with no interceptions in the Cardinals biggest win of the season. Edgerrin James continues to run with power and purpose as he helped the Cardinals control the clock in the second half and had a massive touchdown that helped guide the Cardinals offense to the win. The Cardinals defense has also been terrific as they held Willie Parker to under 100 yards for the first time this season. If the Cardinals can continue to not turn the ball over, run the ball effectively and prolong their dominate play on defense, this team will be a mainstay on the Shark's six-pack.

Honorable Mention

New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Carolina Panthers
