The Simulcast Politicians on the campaign trail are promising that history will be made in 2008...well, what about two nights before? The NFL, although stoked as dill pickles about the NFL Network, realizes that the network...how does one say this nicely...the network sucks. Regardless of whether you live in a house or an apartment, depending on your locale, you may not even qualify for Dish Network coverage. And forbid it that you should live in an apartment that doesn't allow installation for their tenants. The network just doesn't cut it for game coverage. And it just so happened that the NFL network was slated to cover the New England Patriots in their final game of the regular season. Who would have expected the Pats to go 15-0 through 16 NFL weeks? Maybe I'm a bad football fan for saying I'm not surprised, or maybe I'm just living in denial...because I keep saying the same thing: "The season ain't over yet." If the Pats think the Giants will be an easy win, they don't realize who they're squaring off against under the Saturday Night Lights. The Giants really don't care one way or the other...they'll bicker on the sidelines, Eli willl shrug, they'll complain in the post-game new conferences and they'll still come out to play and win the next game. As a collective whole, the team is a loose cannon. Because everyone wants to see the Pats play a dangerous team, the Commish has made a move that will once again etch his name in the pro football history books...the game will be broadcast for all to see on a variety of netwoks: CBS, NBC and NFL. Just in case someone has to rely on their rabbit ears for reception. Oh, and so the league can make some serious bank in profit sharing. Seriously. All of a sudden, the New England Patriots final game is more important than anything other than say, a Presidential address. Isn't this America? We all know this game is more important than a Presidential address. The season has been marked with several records being surpassed, so why not add another to the pile. If it happens on Saturday night, do I believe it can be done again? Yes. And I don't think it will take over 30 years for it to happen. As unfortunate as the feat would be for Patriot haters, everyone must give the squad their due, but for goodness sake, stop comparing them to past "great" teams and playing these Patriots vs. those same teams in mock games - quick answer: The 2007 Patriots would win. Trust. The game is in continuous evolution. Kudos to Roger Goodell for making the right decision. He's swell, and so good for the game of football. And for one night, he'll offer Eli Manning a few more fans that would be happy to have him on their squad, leading a team to a 10-win season and the playoffs. If you're wondering where the "true" Giants fans will be for this momentous occasion, they'll be watching from home after selling their tickets online to Patriots fans.
