Year-End Audit I'm doing a little self auditing. You hear that IRS? SELF...auditing. OK, it's slightly different, and filled with a bit of regret in regards to a few calls I've made throughout the season. For the most part...I'm satisified with the 2007 football season. Knowing I should re-phrase that, I'll just say that I'm satisfied as to how I fit into the the 2007 football season. I didn't quite hit the mark as I did a year ago, raking in the wonderful cash and prizes of properly picking games and predicting playoff match-ups; however, looking at my current offerings, I can honestly say that I wasn't too far off - or...I AM not too far off. I did pick New England and San Diego to battle it out in the AFC Championship game, with the Patriots advancing to the Super Bowl. In the NFC I did pick "them Cowboys," vs. a favorite of mine that has grossly underachieved, or at the very least played inconsistently, for the whole of the season: The New Orleans Saints. Althought the Saints aren't done logistically, they are closer to going into the gumbo pot than the fryer chicken I've got in my freezer. But, and that's a huge BUT, all the teams I said would still be in it, are...at least...in it...kind of. Now that the season is rapidly coming to an end, we're staring at a team that is toying with perfection, while all other teams destined for the playoffs are only falling into the category of comparison. Do any of the teams compare? And if I were asked who I thought would be in the Super Bowl now, I'd still have to toss the Patriots into the big game...with the Green Bay Packers. A team so easily predicted with another, with a team that might have fallen into the "never in a million years" category in August of 2007. The NFC playoff picture is going to be interesting. By 2008 we'll at least know all of the teams vying for the title, and if Washington is to be stirred into the mix, consider that squad to be some spice that could really turn the recipe on its head. I do believe that Green Bay matches up vs. New England better than any other team in the NFC, and it would make one heckuva Super Bowl - the Pack just has to get there. Until Dallas checks out, the road goes through Big D...but I believe Dallas will be this year's San Diego, losing to Washington in the second round, after Washington knocks off Seattle in the first. Yep, I think Dallas will let the 'Skins in this weekend, and will have all off-season to regret it. New England Patriots vs. Green Bay Packers Favre into the sunset.
