49ers Defeat Bengals The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 20-13 to earn their fourth win of the season. San Francisco received a solid performance from third-string quarterback Shaun Hill who passed for 197 yards and a touchdown in his first career start. Hill also ran for a three-yard touchdown to give the Niners a 7-0 lead in the second quarter.
“I had confidence in myself, but obviously it’s nice to go out and actually do it,” said Hill. “It’s one thing to sit there and visualize everything and feel like you can make all the plays. It’s another to go out and do it.”
Hill’s confidence seemed to rub off on the rest of his teammates. Running back Frank Gore had his most productive game of the year, rushing for 138 yards on 29 carries. Veteran wide out Darrell Jackson hauled in eight catches for 86 yards. Tight end Vernon Davis, a former first round pick, had five catches for 46 yards and a touchdown.
It was the Niners first home victory since Week One. San Francisco entered the season with high expectations after adding Pro Bowl cornerback Nate Clements via free agency. The 49ers defense held the Bengals high powered offense in check throughout the game.
“We just wanted to show we can do what we’ve been capable of doing all season,” said Clements.
Unfortunately, it’s a little too late in the season to play your first complete game.
