And The Starter For The Chiefs Is...

James Sheldon  |Aug 25,2007
Damon Huard.

No fanfare...simply the obvious choice at this point.

Damon Huard has been named the Kansas City Chiefs starter for the 2007 season. He'll be under center vs. the Houston Texans on September 9th, and will enjoy an unfamiliar role as an opening day starter. He became the obvious man for the job as pre-season progressed; his decisions proving to be game-worthy, and his calm demeanor offering a contagious effect in the huddle. With Larry Johnson back in the mix, Huard will enjoy additional veteran leadership on the offensive side of the ball, as well as a shared burden in bringing big plays to possessions.

Brodie Croyle showed glimpses of potential during pre-season, yet proved to be a bit green during “simulated” game activity. His errors were clearly of the mental variety, rather than a physical inability to get the job done. Who knows what the season will bring for Croyle as he is obviously the man for the “future.” Anyone's guess is good in regards to when this “future” will arrive. One thing's for certain: The pre-season connection from Brodie Croyle to Dwayne Bowe vs. the Saints, was a nice glimpse into what the Chiefs will potentially see a lot of as time progresses. Yet for the time being, it will be, “Rally round the Huard!”
