Tiki Barber seems to be finally owning up to the one thing most everyone else finds to be a foregone conclusion. “In his new memoir “Tiki: My Life in the Game and Beyond” slated to hit bookstores Sept. 18, the Giants' all-time leading rusher pens "If Tom Coughlin had not remained as head coach of the Giants, I might still be in a Giants uniform." Barber adds: “He robbed me of what had been one of the most important things I had in my life, which was the joy I felt playing football. I had lost that. He had taken it away." The quotes appear in the Tuesday, Sept. 5, edition on the New York Daily News, but by nightfall the ever-elusive Barber was already attempting to distance himself from many of them. During his nationally syndicated radio show that evening, Barber emphatically argued he never definitely wrote he would still be playing if Coughlin were not coaching, but did concede his frosty relationship with the coach played a factor in his decision. Since walking away from the team at the end of last season and into the world of television journalism, Barber has publically feuded with former teammates almost as much as he once carried the load for them. Just weeks ago, he and star quarterback Eli Manning traded barbs over what Barber characterized as the third-year player's inability to be an effective leader, adding, that at times, his efforts almost seemed "comical."
