Burress Comes Up Big for Giants

Giants fans are hoping the real Plaxico Burress will soon stand up. The 6-5, 230 pound star wideout was at his tantalizing best during the second half of the team's come-from-behind 24-17 victory over division leading Washington on Sunday.

But the first half? Well, that's probably a time Burress won't soon care to remember. It was low-lighted by three dropped passes and not a single reception. It was enough to leave even Burress himself wondering.

“I don't think I ever started off a game like that," he admitted. "I came in at halftime, there was nobody more disappointed than myself. Those are just things I don't do. I felt bad because I was letting my team down. The defense was playing great and I was out there just stinking it up, basically.

But the second half soon found the Giants star receiver feeling more like himself. Quarterback Eli Manning continued to call on the man that has become one of his favorite targets and soon Burress was responding in the manner that earned him that distinction.

Five catches, 86 yards and a Burress' touchdown reception that left most everyone at FedEx Field shaking their heads in amazement later, and the Giants had forged ahead once and for all. Making his heroics all the more impressive is the fact Burress beat Skins star safety Sean Taylor with his game-winning move.

"I gave him one of those old backyard Virginia Beach moves and he fell for it," Burress would say later. “"I just had to keep fighting. If we'd have lost the game, I'd have felt horrible."

But in the end, much like that first half, all of that was forgotten.
