Calais Campbell Combine Interview

Defensive end Calais Campbell may not be get as much print as Chrs Long or Glen Dorsey, but he is one defensive lineman to keep an eye as the draft draws closer. Campbell spoke with the media recently at the NFL Combine.

On all the Miami guys in the NFL

"The work ethic that we've got to learn at Miami … they push you to the limit, get you mentally tough.''

The alumni factor?

"That's a big part of it. Picking their brains and stuff, it gives you a lot, gives you inspiration to be like them when they come back. They really care about you, that's a big part of playing football there is coming back.''

Was it a disappointing season for the team and personally in '07

"It was a tough season for everybody across the board. Very tough. I could have played a lot better, I worked hard and I thought I played very well against the run. I could have had a couple more sacks, but I played through a couple nicks, small injuries.''

On the Alumni who have helped him

"I've got different guys who have helped me, watching film, little things to make me better, Russell Maryland, D.J. Williams, so many people who have been there.''

On his height helping or hurting him

"I think it will definitely help me. When you're tall and have long arms, a lot of coaches like that. So hopefully it will help me out a lot. I think my arm measured in at 35 ˝.''

On his prep record for sacks in Colorado

"There's a lot of talent in Colorado. I played hard, when I did get sacks it was hard work and determination.''

Why didn't you enter the draft last year?

"Last year I didn't because I didn't have my degree yet. I got my degree in sociology and my minor in advertising in December.''

What is the difference between you and other players?

"My motor is my strong point, how hard I play. That's who I am.''

What system could you play in?

"I've never really played the two gap system before, but I'm a hard worker and I'm a fast learner so I could adjust to anything. I've talked to a couple 3-4 teams, but I'll play in any system.''

What do you have to prove?

"I believe my biggest knock is my strength. I didn't feel like I could have played as well as a I can this year, so I've got to prove I come to work. That I'll work hard every day.''

What did you weigh when you got to college?

"228 on my first day.''

What was your height then?

"I think I've grown about an inch.''

Are you aware of NFL's priority on off-the-field-behavior?

"I'm aware that's a priority. I think everybody wants to know you'll represent them well.''

Describe your game

"My game is a high motor. I go make a play. I try to use a technique as much as I can and play as hard as I can. I can play left or right.''

On talking to Brandon Meriweather

"He gave me advice what to expect. Mostly we talked about the combine and all the stuff going on here.''

Advice he got from him

"Just come prepared to work.
