Campbell and Grossman Go Down The Chicago Bears took on the Washington Redskins on Thursday night. Late season Thursday Night football is always a treat, unless of course you don't have the NFL Network. If you were able to see the game, you caught two semi-desperate NFC teams battling it out for a slim chance at a playoff spot. You also saw two quarterbacks get bounced out of the game with low hits to the knees.
Rex Grossman was the first to go down. During Chicago's second possession, Cornelius Griffin dove at Grossman's left knee and knocked him out of the game. Grossman limped off the field and did not return.
Redskins Quarterback Jason Campbell got dinged up early as well. He suffered an elbow injury early in the game but he came back. Shortly after his return in the second quarter, DE Mark Anderson took out Campbell's legs. Campbell dislocated his left kneecap and looked like he was in some serious pain.
After the knees of both QBs were shot, the backups came in. Bears backup QB Brian Griese entered the game and threw three interceptions in the second quarter. Washington's journeyman backup Todd Collins came into the game and shined. He fumbled the ball on his fourth play of the game (after an Alex Brown sack), but Greise returned the favor with a quick turnover. That's when Todd Collins took over.
Collins completed 15 of 20 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns. Griese completed 27 of 45 tosses for 295 yards. He threw one touchdown and two interceptions.
The Skins held off Chicago's late game surge. Washington finished the game with only 31 total rushing yards, but they still came away with the W.
Early reports indicate that Jason Campbell will be out for the rest of the regular season. So far, there has not been a timeframe reported for Grossman's return.
