Chargers Await Word on Game Locale The San Diego Chargers are continuing to await word from league officials as to when and where they might play their next game. The best laid plans went awry this week when raging wildfires engulfed the southern coast of California, forcing thousands upon thousands of area residents to evacuate their homes. Among those forced to flee was Chargers All-Pro running back and reigning league MVP LaDainian Tomlinson. Tomlinson told ESPN.com he was looking at the game as a positive diversion for all those people who were effected by the fires. "Even for three or four hours, if you can entertain them, take their mind off what ever is going on in their world. That's what we want to do," he said. As of Thursday, the Chargers, coming off their bye-week and riding a two-game winning streak, were all convened in Arizona and working out at the Cardinals facilities. San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders has said he plans to decide Thursday if the team will be able to host the Houston Texans at Qualcomm Stadium as planned on Sunday. "We're waiting as long as we can to assess the need for a shelter as large as Qualcomm," Sanders said earlier this week. As of Wednesday, an estimated 10,000 people were being housed at a Qualcomm evacuation center. Besides Tomlinson, coach Norv Turner, quarterback Philip Rivers and linebacker Shawne Merriman were also forced to leave their homes, all along the San Diego resort area. "I want to play back home, no doubt about it," said Merriman, "but we're going to have to deal with what we're going to have to deal with." League officials said other possible game locations being considered include Dallas and Houston.
