Eagles' Kearse Puts Bad Behind By Glenn Minnis In Jevon Kearse's mind, the grind of two-a-days never felt so fine. Training camp this year marks the first time the Eagles' star defensive end has been able to take the field since tearing up his knee less than a month into last season. To say the least, the rather bizarre injury left the man celebrated by teammates as 'The Freak' a bit anxious to get back to work. “I'm just looking forward to getting on the field everyday and getting closer to the season,” says an excited Kearse, who, nonetheless, admits things remain far from perfect. For despite all his steps in the right direction this off-season, questions abound over if he'll truly be ready to go come game time. At the head of the list, believe it or not, are not questions about his knee, but rather concerns over his weight. Long applauded as a physical freak of nature, Kearse came into camp this season in the range of 240 pounds. That set off alarm signals far-and-wide that he might be just a bit light for someone so expected to help anchor the Eagles' defensive line. Not to worry, insists Kearse, whose contends he's always played at a size close to that mark and insists this season will be no exception. “I don't know who these people are,” Kearse adds of all his detractors. “I just want to get my groove on again; I'm pleased with where I am.” But it's the prospect of being the QB terror he's always been that has Eagles' fans most excited. Has them dreaming of what they hope will be a super season. “I think he's there,” Eagles coach Andy Reid boasted recently. “He's been very hard for us to block and he's doing a great job getting off the ball. He had more sacks the first three days then he's had since he's been here.” Jevon Kearse even better than he's been before? How's that as food for thought?
