Feely Eyes Opener Try as he might, A.J. Feeley wasn't the least bit able to put a positive spin on Eagles' coach Andy Reid's obviously somber mood. Reid had just helplessly watch his backup QB get manhandled by the Jets, sustaining a broken left hand along the way during the team's 13-11 beatdown. In his mind, the only question seemed where his greatest disappointment should lay: in Feely suffering the injury or in the poor play of the offensive line that lead to it. That it came about during the team's final preseason game and left rookie Kevin Kolb as Donovan McNabb's primary backup only added to Reid's initial woes. But along came Feely, all but assuring all wasn't nearly as bad as it seemed, more or less guaranteeing that he would be ready to try it all again a week later during the team's season opener against Green Bay. It was enough to even give Reid new perspective. "It shouldn't be IR," the obviously calmer coach conceded later. "I'd be surprised if it was." But that fact alone probably won't be enough to quite quell the coach's angst with his offensive line, nor allow them to slip his widening hook. During the preseason, the Eagles were outgained on the ground 419-291 yards by the opposition and averaged just 2.9 yards a carry. And, granted Brian Westbrook and Correll Buckhalter carried the ball just 26 times between them, that has sparked concern among many considering the team averaged more than 300 yards per game on the ground last season. Andy Reid is probably one of those most concerned. And you can bet he'll spend between now and Green Bay working on calming his nerves.
