Former ASU Sun Devil, Sam Keller, To Start For Nebraska

James Sheldon  |Aug 21,2007
Former Arizona State quarterback, Sam Keller, was announced as the starter for the Nebraska Cornhuskers when they open the season on September 1st vs. Nevada. Coach Bill Callahan's decision was somewhat anticipated, however, he didn't come to a conclusion overnight – both Keller, and backup, Joe Ganz, put together solid camps and two-a-days this summer. As disappointed as Ganz was with the decision, he'll once again be watching from the sidelines, waiting for his opportunity to compete. Coach Callahan commented that Ganz disappointment was a tell-tale sign of the type of competitor he is.

Keller transferred from Arizona State last season and watched the action from the Nebraska sideline as part of the NCAA rule on Division I transfer athletes. He was named the MVP of the 2004 Sun Bowl, and began his 2005 campaign with 20 touchdown passes over 7 games before a hand injury ended his season. 2006 looked to be another promising season, yet two days after being announced the team's starter, the job was pulled from his hands and given to Rudy Carpenter. Keller wasted no time in collecting his belongings and heading to Nebraska.
