Former Bills lineman dies

Mitch Frerotte, a backup offensive lineman on three Super Bowl teams for the Buffalo Bills in 1990s, has died. He was 43.

Frerotte died unexpectedly Wednesday evening at his mother’s home in Kittanning.

Authorities told PA SportsTicker that Frerotte died of a possible heart attack.

Police responded to a 911 call from Frerotte’s mother’s home at 5:30 p.m. Emergency personnel started CPR at the scene and transported Frerotte to Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, where he later died.

Frerotte played with the Bills in 1987 and again from 1990-92, seeing a majority of his playing time in a reserve role. He signed with the Seattle Seahawks following the 1992 season, but never appeared in a game for the franchise after suffering a neck injury.

Frerotte played collegiately at Penn State.
