G-Men Clicking on All Cylinders

G-Men Clicking on All Cylinders
Fresh off their resounding triumph over the Jets in the battle of New York on Sunday, the Giants are spending the early part of their week turning their attention to other, equally pressing matters.

Namely Coach Tom Coughlin and his G-Men are trying to figure out how to rid themselves of a disturbing trend that has seen them have to overcome sizable deficits in two of the three victories they’ve snared over the live of their mini-win streak.

Now, perhaps a pessimist might equate such incessant worrying with looking a gift horse squarely in the mouth, but when you’re on the roll the Giants have been on over the last three weeks one has to wonder just why quarterback Eli Manning and company would be willing to settle for anything less than perfection.

"No, you don't want to be known as a slow-starting team," Manning told the NYC Daily News. "But I think it's also good to be known as a team that in the fourth quarter they're playing at their best. Usually that's where you're going to win games."

And over the last three weeks, win the Giants have, putting together a run that has seen them claw their way back into contention in the ultra-competitive NFC East. Amazingly, issues that were once of grave concern to the G-Men, now seem matters of hardened resolve.

Take, for instance, the running game, long thought to be a potentially thorny issue given the hasty retirement of star running back Tiki Barker. But Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward are teaming to give Giants’ fans pause in rendering their prolonged assessment of the situation.

Against the Jets, the duo amassed 156 of the team's season-high 188 rushing yards. Said Jacobs, “I don't know if anyone else saw what we saw, but 27 and 34 (he and Ward's numbers) are going to be hard to stop."

Apparently, so too are the Giants.
