Giants Blowing Hot Air

So who says the Giants aren't good at playing the game? Defensive leader and team captain Antonio Pierce proved this week the G-Men are more than adept at it. Now if they could just find a way to bring some of that energy and expertise to the field. 

All week long, Pierce and company refrained from taking any media questions concerning what's by far been the league's poorest defense. Then on Thursday, they strategically went on the offensive. Each time the veteran linebacker was hit with a question he didn't care for, he would pull an air horn from under his towel and began blowing nonstop.

Then, seemingly whenever the mood struck him, Pierce would stop just long enough to lampoon both the media and Giants' fans. “We're asking the media and fans, if you all know how to help out the Giants' defense send it to Giants.com,” he deadpanned. "We would appreciate it."

All jokes aside, Pierce may really be on to something. Certainly, things couldn't get much worse than they've been for coach Tom Coughlin and his beleaguered team.

“If we're sitting here holding press conferences like this, then I'm wasting my time, I could be watching film and that's what I do best,” said Pierce, who nonetheless found the time to make paid appearances on three different radio shows earlier in the week. “I don't get paid for media during the locker room hours," he added.

Words so strong they even moved star defensive end Michael Strahan to speak his mind. "You can't think about yesterday's spilled milk," Strahan said of a defense that has allowed league-leading totals of 80-points and 621 passing yards. "You have to worry about the delivery today."

And if the Giants' D doesn't somehow find a way to deliver some support to star quarterback Eli Manning and company this Sunday in Washington, well, let's just say the last joke will again be on them.
