Jacobs Anxious to Carry Load At 6-4, 265 pounds, Brandon Jacobs isn't easily intimidated. Not even by the prospect of chasing a ghost. As the man slated to replace Giants' all-time leading rusher and receiver Tiki Barber, Jacobs knows all eyes will be on him this season. And the third-year man insists he's ready for his close up. “I don't have a concern,” says Jacobs. I don't have one concern, because if I had a concern that would mean I'm uncertain or I don't know what I'm doing. I don't have any concerns.” Bold words for one following in the footsteps of someone as steeped as Barber. But then, Jacobs is more than big enough to back them up. “He's the biggest guy ever in the league at running back,” marvels linebacker and defensive leader Antonio Pierce. "There's probably been some 280-pound running backs, but at 6-4? With speed? And lean? And with a nasty attitude. In New York they love that nasty attitude.” They'll certainly get plenty of it from Jacobs, at least on the field anyway. “Watch the games,” he says. “I won't be the one being worn down.” That comes as music to the ears of coach Tom Coughlin. “He's done well in the limited amount of work,” says Coughlin. “Now the key is when it comes time for the real games... if he's going to be a difference-maker.” Jacobs insist he's ready to answer all the questions. “It's payoff time,” he says. “It's not hard, it's playing football.”
