Already on probation on DUI charges, Jacksonville Jaguars left tackle Khalid Barnes has been hit with careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident citations after he crashed his brand new Mercedes into a tree causing more than $10,000 in damage, Florida police said.

According to authorities, Barnes reported the accident just after 6:30 a.m. last Saturday. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the 2007 vehicle wrapped around a tree with the ignition key laying nearby.

Barnes later told officers he was en route to a mandatory team treatment session for his injured ankle when he dozed off and wrecked the vehicle. Barnes' current six-months probation sentence only allows him to drive to and from work and.

After the accident, Barnes told authorities he returned home, borrowed another vehicle from a relative and drove to his appointment at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. "I realize I used poor judgment and I should have stayed with the car," Barnes told the Florida Times-Union, adding that he went directly to the sheriff's office after the treatment session ended.
