Jehuu Caulcrick Interview

With his size and power, Jehuu Caulcrick could be a steal for some NFL team in the upcoming draft. The former Michigan State standout spoke with the media recently at the NFL Combine.

Any clue where you might go?

Right now it’s too early. It just depends on the need that they have right now. I’m pretty open to playing wherever I’m needed.

Is there a big back in the NFL you look up to?

Brandon Jacobs, T.J. Duckett, those type of guys.

Will you be a big back or fullback?

I think I can play a big back role or a fullback role. I have the capability of playing a third down back, whether it’s blocking or releasing out of the backfield.

Coming from a small town, did you ever imagine this was possible?

At first, I didn’t because going to a small school with a graduating class of 26 people. It’s a dream that’s coming true now.

When did the reality hit you?

When I was playing at Clymer, I thought about it. But I had no clue. I didn’t even know about the combine at the time because it wasn’t advertised at the time. It started coming into the back of my mind like the end of my sophomore year going into my junior year when I saw guys I played with come here and then go on and have successful careers in the NFL.

Assess your career at Michigan St

No it didn’t go the way I thought it would. It was up and down. The first year I got there I was redshirted. I came in as a running back and they moved me to linebacker. It was tough on me, but I had to make adjustments. We had up and down seasons, but this past season ended on a very good note.

On his Combine showing determing where he gets drafted

I feel like if I come out here and run a good time and test well I’ll put myself in a very good position.

When did you leave Liberia?

I moved to America when I was nine years old. I grew up with a lot of adversity with my dad being assassinated and having to run from refugee camps to refugee camps for my life. But I was fortunate enough to come to America and start a new life. And now I have a great opportunity ahead of me.

How did you overcome that?

At the time we had no time to be scared. We were just running for our lives. You just had to overcome it.

Moving to Clymer much different?

It was different from what I was used to, but it’s very good. I appreciate everybody back there and how they helped me out, and I still consider that home.

What is it going to be like on draft day?

It’s going to be buzzing around there. I don’t know what I’ll be doing. I’ll probably be low key with my family. Hopefully after the draft I’ll know where I’m going.

Will you being drafted the biggest thing to happen to the town?

It’s going to be one of the biggest things.

On playing in the two back system

In order to be that type of guy you have to be unselfish not care who get all the accolades and credit. I feel that’s the type of guy I am. With the way the league is becoming now it’s tougher and one guy can’t withstand all the beating, so different guys have to come in. I feel like I’m ready for that.

What area of your game do you need to improve?

My explosion. I need to be more consistent with my explosion into the hole and going downfield.

On being more of a short yardage back

I definitely want to prove that I’m more than a short-yardage guy. I feel like I’ve displayed some of that. On two of the runs I had this season I exploded downfield. I had a 42-yard touchdown run. It showed that I have deceptive speed. If [teams] watch film on me they will see that.
