The kickoff had already been delayed for an hour with lightning in the distance and the loud cracks of thunder. Just another late summer thunderstorm in the Baltimore/Washington area. The game began with light rain drizzling down on the field. The lights of FedEx Field flickered with each lightning strike miles away but close enough that the NFL felt the safety of the players and fans was at stake. So with 11:38 left in the 3rd quarter, the game was called and the Redskins, up 13-7, were declared the winner. Most of the main action had already taken place in the first half with the starters in. Both teams looked sloppy. You can't blame the weather for false starts. It just took Ravens QB, Steve McNair, a few snaps to get his rhythm and he marched the Baltimore offense 70 yards for a touchdown drive. The Redskins offense, really never coming together in this pre-season, once again struggled to put points on the board. Sean Suisham provided two field goals of 45 yards and 25 yards, respectively. The only touchdown the Redskins could convert was on a defensive sack that led to Kyle Boller fumbling and rookie Dallas Sartz recovering then marching in 3 yards for the go ahead score. Shortly after, the game was called for inclement weather. So while technically the Redskins get this pre-season win, I'm still not convinced they are a playoff team this year. Starters Jason Campbell, Clinton Portis, and Chris Samuels did not play, but it would be nice to see the 1st team bruise their way down the field like Redskins football should. While the Ravens are given the L, their 1st team fully outplayed the Redskins. It's quite obvious that Baltimore should be one of the elite teams in the AFC once again this year. The Redskins, however, may need a few strokes of luck to see the post season.
