Nate Forse Interview We recently had a chance to sit down and talk with NFL hopeful Nate Forse. Many people have not heard of Forse because he played his collegiate career at the University of California (PA) which is a Division II school. However, anybody who has seen Forse play watched him dominate his competition week in and week out. Forse has the perfect body for the NFL wide receiver of the 21st century. He stands at 6 ‘4 and weighs 222 pounds. While Forse is a physical specimen, he also runs the 40 in 4.59 and has a 36 inch vertical jump. Forse may be the most underrated talent in this years NFL Draft but whoever selects him will get a Kevin Curtis type player that works hard on and off of the field. Where did you play your high school ball? Laurel Highlands High School in Pa. That school is known for their basketball legacy. Did you play basketball in high school? I played Basketball, football and ran track in high school. What made you focus on football? I always had a love for football and thought I might have a future in our great sport. You started your career at West Virginia and then transferred to Cal PA. What was it like playing at powerhouse programs on different levels? West Virginia is an incredible program. While I was there, I practiced against Pac Man Jones everyday which helped my game. Cal is a fantastic small school. We were like a family at Cal. We won three straight Conference Championships and learned each and every day. What was your most memorable game in college? When we played Edinboro College. That’s always a rivalry game and I scored a touchdown and had 10 catches and most importantly, we got the victory. Who was your toughest opponent in college?
Pac Man Jones in practice at WVU and Brandon Carr who played Cornerback for Grand Valley. I played against him at the Cactus Bowl. What was that experience like? It was incredible. There were lots of scouts there and I enjoyed learning from all of the different coaches. Tell me about the Cal (Pa) Pro Day: Another great experience. It was different from a lot of other pro Days because we ran outside and it was windy and snowing so it was a game-like experience. I enjoyed every minute of it. What was the process like of picking out an agent? It was stressful. It was kind of like being recruited all over again. In the end, I know I made the right choice. Who did you choose? Ryan and Chase Kunk. Why them? They have my best interest in mind. Their young but they’re eager to work for their clients and have treated me like a member of their family. I wouldn’t want to be with anybody else. Who was your favorite team growing up? Growing up in PA I was a Steelers fan but I watched every game and viewed it as a learning experience. Favorite player? Jerry Rice. Is there any player you model yourself after? I try and learn something from all great receivers. I study tape all of the time. I love to watch how Randy Moss and Terrell Owens separate themselves on the field. I admire the way Wes Welker always gets opened. What coach helped your game the most in college? Mike Keller who was my offensive coordinator at Cal and Larry Wilson who was my position coach. Coach Wilson always stressed the fundamentals and taught us how important it is for wide receivers to be good blockers. What do you think is your best attribute?
I think I’m versatile. I have good size and I pride myself on having soft hands. Is there any scheme you’d prefer to play in?
Not at all. I just want a chance to contribute and help my team win regardless of the system. Do you think you can be an asset on Special Teams? I really do. It’s something I’m working hard on. I’ll do whatever it takes to make a roster and help make my team better and Special Teams in an important part of the game and I would love to play on them at the next level. What are your plans for draft day?
Just sit at home and wait for a call. If you weren’t going to play pro football, what would you do? I’m getting my Master’s Degree in Exercise Science and one day I want to coach football. Tell us, why should an NFL team draft Nate Forse? I’m versatile, I’m hard-working and I will do whatever it takes on the field and in the locker room to help my team win. Nate Forse is a talent that is truly flying under the radar right now. One can’t help but think of another talent from Pennsylvania who flew under the radar 34 years ago named Billy “White Shoes” Johnson. Johnson, like Forse played at a small Pa school (Widener) and was overlooked by teams such as the Eagles and Steelers. Johnson went on to make the NFL 75th Anniversary All-Time Team and the 1980’s all decade team. For years, the Steelers and Eagles were haunted by not taking a chance on Johnson. Forse is in the same situation. Forse is a hometown product who will make an NFL team much better. It would make all of the sense in the world for a team like the Eagles or Steelers who are in desperate need for a big receiver to select Forse because not only will he be a star on the field but he will be a major addition to their marketing scheme. Forse has all of the makings of a hometown boy who is going to make it good. Forse will be a force at the next level. Remember you heard it here first. By Bill Neri-Amadeo
