The Jacksonville Jaguars have re-signed fullback/running back Greg Jones to a five-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed. Jones was originally a second round pick by the Jaguars in 2004 and has played in 46 games with 27 starts over four seasons. Jones started 11 of 16 games in 2007 and was named a first alternate to the Pro Bowl.  Jones finished with 42 carries for 119 yards and two touchdowns along with 11 receptions for 99 yards and two touchdowns. 

The Cincinnati Bengals have signed Safety Herana-Daze Jones, the team’s top special teams tackler the last two seasons, to a one-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed. Injuries limited him to nine games in 2007, but he led the special teams with 18 tackles and added five tackles on defense. In 2006, he led the special teams with 19 tackles. The Bengals held his exclusive NFL rights for 2008.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced they have named Jay Merlino as the team’s assistant strength and conditioning coach. Merlino replaces Bob Rogucki, who was named head strength and conditioning coach of the Baltimore Ravens earlier this week.Merlino has served as a strength and conditioning assistant with the Eagles since 2005. From 2003-04, he worked part-time with the Eagles strength and conditioning staff after spending the 2002 season as an intern.

The Washington Redskins announced that they have named Stump Mitchell as assistant head coach - running backs.  Mitchell spent the last nine seasons with the Seattle Seahawks as their running backs coach. Prior to joining the Seahawks, Mitchell served three seasons as head coach at Morgan State University (1996-1998).  He spent the 1995 season as offensive coordinator at Morgan State before being promoted to head coach the following season.  His coaching career began as the running back coach with the San Antonio Rough Riders of the NFL Europe League (1991) and later was the head coach at Casa Grande High School in Arizona (1991-1994). 

The Atlanta Falcons have named Glenn Pires the team’s new Linebackers Coach and retained Billy “White Shoes” Johnson as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. Pires joins the Falcons after spending the past five seasons with the Miami Dolphins as the Assistant Linebackers Coach (2007), Defensive Quality Control Coach (2005-2006) and Assistant Defensive Line Coach (2003-2004). He served as the Linebackers Coach for two seasons with the Detroit Lions (2001-2002) following his start in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals where he spent five years as the Linebackers Coach (1996-2000). Johnson enters his third year as the Falcons Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach and will work with Jeff Fish, Atlanta’s newly appointed Strength and Conditioning Coach. Johnson had previously spent 12 years spearheading the Falcons player programs and player development department, dating back to 1994.
