One and Done for Ricky

One and Done for Ricky

Ricky Williams made his first NFL appearance of 2007 in last night's sloppy Pittsburgh game that produced the lowest score in the history of Monday Night Football. Ricky didn't start, but with Ronnie Brown out and Jesse Chatman hurting, Ricky was bound to see some action.

Ricky Williams failed yet another weed test in April 2007. After a hefty suspension from the league, Williams applied for reinstatement on October 1, 2007. His reinstatement was announced on November 14 and he was activated to the Miami Dolphins roster yesterday, November 26.

When Williams entered the game in the first quarter, he had to pick up a first down in a third-and-four situation. Williams plowed through the hole, kept his feet moving and converted the first down.

Ricky Williams rushed five more times in the mud and totaled 15 yards for the night. One his final carry, Steelers LB James Farrior drilled Williams, jarring the ball loose. As Williams lay face down in the sludge, Lawrence Timmons trampled Ricky's back on his way to a successful fumble recovery.

Williams left the game and didn't return. Turns out that Ricky tore his chest muscle. He'll miss the remainder of the season. Williams will have to start a rigorous rehab program that could last months.

Still, the Dolphins would be wise to keep Ricky around. They can put him on injured reserve, keep a roster spot free for someone else and help him return to form.

This latest setback has to be a huge disappointment for Williams.
