Patriots safety Harrison admits to HGH use, suspended four games
The New England Patriots will open the season without veteran safety Rodney Harrison. The hard-hitting safety was suspended without pay for the first four games of the season for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Harrison will likely make his return to the field October 7 against the Cleveland Browns. Harrison accepted responsibility for his actions, but denied using steroids.

“I want to make it clear that not once did I ever use steroids. I did admit to the commissioner that I did, in fact, use a banned substance,” said Harrison.

The banned substance he admits to using was human growth hormone. Harrison insists his use of HGH was intended solely for the purpose of accelerating the healing process of injuries. Considering his recent slew of injuries, this explanation may have some merit. James Sanders is expected to replace the 14-year veteran in the lineup.

Harrison was very concerned that his actions set a poor example for the youth of America.

“I’ve sent the wrong message with my actions and I wouldn’t want to be an example for them to jeopardize their health,” said Harrison.

It’s refreshing to see an athlete that has made a mistake immediately accept responsibility and take an assertive approach to dissuade others from going down the wrong path.
