Patriots Crush Dolphins, Improve to 15-0 The New England Patriots are one win from perfection after hammering the division rival Miami Dolphins 28-7 at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.
Quarterback Tom Brady threw three first half touchdowns and running back Lawrence Maroney had his most productive game of the year, rushing for 156 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. The Patriots took a commanding 28-0 into the break.
New England (15-0) heads to the Meadowlands next Saturday to take on the New York Giants. If the Pats win, they will become the first NFL team to finish the regular season 16-0. Brady is one touchdown pass shy of Peyton Manning’s single-season record 49 touchdowns. The former Michigan star remains focused on leading his team to a championship.
“When you look back at the end of your career, you’ll be excited about individual records, but winning’s more important and I think that’s really what everyone’s concerned about,” Brady said.
Brady is not the only Patriot close to making history. Receiver Randy Moss hauled in two more touchdowns Sunday giving him 21 on the year. Moss is one touchdown shy of tying Jerry Rice’s single-season record.
It remains to be seen whether head coach Bill Belichick will play his starters next week. But judging from his comments after the game, odds are the Patriots will go all out for the victory next week.
“We’ll do what’s best for our football team, the same as always. We treat every week the same. It’s nothing different,” Belichick said.
The Patriots should face little resistance from the Giants next week. New York clinched a wild card berth on Sunday and has a slew of banged up players they are expected to rest.
Even at full strength, the Giants are no match for Brady and the Pats
