Redskins sign LB Randall Godfrey, Release LeMar Marshall There is a saying, "One man's trash is another man's treasure." All professional sports can follow that mantra. In Washington, it came in the interior linebacker position. The Redskins released longtime LB LeMar Marshall yesterday after a weak 2006 season and lackluster pre-season. You could pretty much see the writing on the wall as the Redskins heavily recruited and signed London Fletcher-Baker from Buffalo and drafted two linebackers in the 2007 draft. Marshall will be missed by players and fans alike as he was one of two defenders left from when Joe Gibbs took over the head coach job in 2004 and was a key part of the awesome D from 2005. Many of Marshall's teammates are confident he'll find a job quickly. The most likely spot for him will be with NFC East rival, New York Giants, as injuries have put them in need of reserve linebackers. Enter Randall Godfrey from San Diego. The 34 year old, 12-year NFL veteran will be Marshall's replacement. Godfrey played a season in Greg Williams' defense in Tennessee back in 2000 so the Skins' coaches are confident he can catch on quickly not be too far behind considering the pre-season is almost over. Godfrey was a hell of a run stopper and that was exactly what the Redskins' 31st ranked defense needed last year. Hopefully with Godfrey in the linebacker tandem, the Skins defense will be back to its dominant ways.
