Redskins Win in OT

Redskins Win in OT

Despite a lackluster offensive performance and two early interceptions from Jason Campbell, the Washington Redskins were able to squeak out a 16-13 overtime victory over the Miami Dolphins.    The Redskins defense was one of the big reasons why they were able to win.  In 16 games last season, the Redskins were only able to net 19 sacks, which averaged out to a little over one per game.  Absolutely horrendous, and last in the NFL.  They have already essentially doubled that effort by getting two sacks today.  Rocky McIntosh and Andre Carter were each able to get to Trent Green.  McIntosh also forced a fumble which the Skins were able to recover.  That was something else the Redskins defense couldn’t do last year, cause turnovers.  London Fletcher-Baker had a great team debut, getting in 10 solo tackles and 2 assisted tackles.  Another big improvement from last season that helped today was not letting the Dolphins get off any big plays.  The Redskins gave up too many plays of over 35 yards last year, and today the Dolphins were only able to move the ball with little dink and dunks.

Another Redskin smiling tonight is Antwaan Randle El.  Randle El came out of nowhere and netted 162 yards in 5 receptions.  Granted 54 of those yards came off of the last second hail mary that bounced off Jason Taylor’s hands and into Randle El’s.  But even without that lucky grab, he still would’ve had over 100 yards receiving and could be establishing himself as a legitimate #2 receiver.  Critics all over constantly said the Redskins didn’t have a real #2 guy after Santana Moss, but Randle El has proven them all wrong.    So, at least for 6 more days, the Redskins can say they are undefeated.
