Shark's Sunday MVPs (Week 13)

Got Rain? The weather definitely played a huge factor in week 13’s games. Six games were hit with rain, wind and just down right nasty, winter conditions. Week 13 did showcase more super human individual performances. Super rookie Adrian Peterson returned to the Minnesota Viking lineup with a bang. A Pete had 15 carries for 116 yards and two touchdowns as the Vikings destroyed the slumping Lions 42-10. Week 13 is nearly in the books and what a Sunday it was with more classic finishes and tremendous individual performances.

The Oakland Raiders stepped up on once again and beat the Denver Broncos behind another gutsy game from Justin Fargas. Lane Kiffin dubbed Fargas the, "Crash Test Dummy" at UCS for his plowing running style but now, this determined running back is due for a new nickname. Let’s try, Beast. Fargas has been the leagues best back the last five weeks and helped the Raiders control the clock with 33 carries and 146 yards and a huge touchdown. The Tampa Bay Bucs got a surprising performance from third string quarterback Luke McCown in the big divisional victory over the New Orleans Saints. McCown went 29-of-37 for 313 yards and two touchdowns including the game winning strike with 17 second left.

Here are the top six performances from Sunday's action and Shark's Sunday MVP.

1.    Shark's Sunday MVP – LaDainian Tomlinson - L.T. surpassed the great Walter Payton on the NFL’s all-time career touchdowns Sunday as he scored and scored again against rival Kansas City. Tomlinson picked up the slack for the off-beat Philip Rivers and the Chargers offense once again. L.T. had 177 yards on 23 carries and two big touchdowns that were just enough to get past the pesky Chiefs 24-10. Tomlinson also had three receptions for 20 yards, giving him 197 total yards.

2.    Lofa Tatupu, Seattle Seahawks – Tatupu was all over the rain soaked Lincoln Field Sunday recording three interceptions and 11 tackles. Tatupu intercepted A.J. Feely’s first and last passes to seal the deal for the upstart Seahawks. Brian Westbrook and the Eagles’ looked to be in position to steal the game late but perfect positioning by Tatupu throughout the game frustrated Feely into four interceptions and the Eagles lost the battle of the attack birds 28-24.

3.    Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts – Manning & Co. had it going in the biggest game in the AFC of week 13. Manning went 20-of-29 for 288 yards and a season-high four touchdowns as Indianapolis beat division rival Jacksonville 28-25. In a game that the Colts had to win, Peyton stepped up and had one of his best games of 2007. The Colts now have a clear shot to the division title after beating the Jaguars for the second time this year.

4.    Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis Colts – Wayne’s World continues in Indy with Marvin Harrison still nursing a sore knee. Wayne was simply on-point Sunday and was Manning’s go to threat with eight catches for 158 yards including a 48-yard touchdown grab. Wayne has stepped up to in the absence of Harrison and is enjoying the finest season of his seven year career.

5.    Roddy White, Atlanta Falcons – White continued his breakout season Sunday recording 10 catches for 146 yards and a touchdown. White continues his fine year and blasted his week 12 totals of six catches, 104 yards and a touchdown. White has been one of the few bright spots in what has become one dismal football season in Atlanta.

6.    Shawne Merriman, San Diego Chargers - Merriman had been quiet the last few weeks but was heard loud and clear Sunday in Kansas City. Merriman led the Chargers defense with six tackles and three monstrous sacks. The Chargers and Merriman played an excellent defensive game holding the Chiefs to only 10 points on 268 total yards and forced four turnovers. Merriman’s big time game in San Diego’s must win situation earn him his first plug on Shark’s Sunday MVPs.

Honorable Mention

•    Torry Holt, St. Louis Rams – Holt showed again why he is still one of the best receivers in the NFL with six catches for 135 yards and a touchdown

•    Hines Ward, Pittsburgh Steelers - Ward had 11 catches, two big touchdowns, 90 yards and in the process became the Steelers' all-time leading receiver. Ward's effort in the rain-soaked game helped the Steelers hold off the Cincinnati Bengals. Congrats to one of our favorite NFL receivers.

•    Joey Galloway, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Galloway had one of his best games of the season recording seven catches for 159 yards. Galloway single handily kept Tampa Bay in the game in the first half and is a major reason McCown was so successful in his first start.

•    Tony Gonzalez, Kansas City Chiefs – Tony G had a sick game, one of the best of his career Sunday. Gonzalez had 10 catches for 140 yards and kept the Chiefs in the game against the Chargers with his timely first down, picture perfect snags.

•    D.J. Williams, Denver Broncos – Williams added another Pro Bowl effort Sunday against the arch rival Raiders. D.J. had 13 tackles, three assists and a fumble recovery in Denver’s 34-20 loss in Oakland.
