Shark's Sunday MVPs (Week 14)

The Patriots are a machine. Thy're in perfect position to go undefeated after dismantling Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Tom Brady and led the charge once again and sealed the league MVP award in the process. In the highly anticipated showdown, New England quieted the young, immature Anthony Smith early and often in the 34-13 blow out. Smith talked a big game last week but played one of the worst games we have seen this season from a defensive back. Congratulations! New England is in prime position to run the table. Brady finished the game with four touchdowns. He now has 45 for the year and he's on the verge of breaking Peyton Manning’s all-time mark. Brady should smash the record and finish with close to 60 touchdowns. That’s right, 60!

Week 14 is almost in the books and what a Sunday it was. There were too many spectacular individual performances this week to count. Players were erupting for career days in every match up. The Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers won their respective divisions and are looking ahead towards the playoffs. The Cowboys snuck out of Detroit with a last second win and Green Bay got behing Brett Farve and continued their magical run with a big win against the Oakland Raiders. Hasselbeck and the Seahawks roughed up rival Arizona in a key NFC West battle to secure another division title.

The Buffalo Bills stepped up at home in snow conditions and destroyed the junior varsity Miami Dolphins 38-17 behind a four touchdown performance from rookie Trent Edwards. The Bills are now 7-6 and right in the thick of things for a Wild Card position in the tough AFC. Elvis Dumervil led the Bronco defensive charge in Denver’s convincing 41-7 victory over rival Kansas City. Dumervil had 4.5 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble. The Broncos’ win keeps them in striking range for a late charge in the AFC West.

Here are the top six performances from Sunday's action and Shark's Sunday MVP.

1.    Shark's Sunday MVPTom Brady, New England Patriots – Brady simply continues to dominate everyone. His record-breaking season continued right along Sunday and earned Brady his second Shark Sunday MVP honor. Brady went over the 4,000 yard mark for the season with 399 yards and now has 45 passing touchdowns after going 32-of-46 for four touchdowns and ZERO interceptions. Brady is on pace for 55 plus touchdowns and the league MVP trophy. Pittsburgh was going to be a challenge for Brady & Co., so everyone said. Hahahaha!

2.    Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle Seahawks – Hasselbeck come out on fire in a game that was arguably the biggest of the season for the Seahawks. Seahawk ace Hasselbeck continued his Pro Bowl campaign going 22-of-33 for 272 yards and four big touchdowns. The crafty veteran quarterback is on pace to break the all-time season Seahawk marks for attempts, completions and yards. The Seahawks have quietly won five straight games and Sunday clinched their fourth NFC West title.

3.    LaDainian Tomlinson, San Diego Chargers – L.T. was at it again in a must win game against the tough Tennessee Titans. San Diego started slow but behind gutsy performances from Philip Rivers and Tomlinson got the job done and are now just one game away from clinching the AFC West. L.T. had 146 yards on 26 carriers including the game winning run in overtime. Tomlinson also came up big in the passing game with four receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown.

4.    Jay Cutler, Denver Broncos – Cutler was impressive Sunday going 20-of-27 for 244 yards and four touchdowns. Cutler has had an up and down year but has been on fire of late with eight touchdowns and only three interceptions in his last four games. Denver’s offensive explosion is coming at a perfect time. At 6-7, the Broncos still have a shot at getting into the playoffs and the play of Cutler is a major reason why.

5.    Marcus Trufant, Seattle Seahawks – Trufant had the best game of his young career against Arizona. The former Washington State Cougar had five tackles and three interceptions, one of which he took 84 yards to the house. Trufant was also instrumental to Seattle’s defense late in the game as Arizona attempted a frantic comeback that he quelled with an interception.

6.    Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts – Manning struck early and often in the prime time Sunday night game in Baltimore. Manning ended the game for the Ravens in the first quarter with two touchdown passes and finished the game going 13-of-17 for 249 yards and two more scores before being pulled just after half time. Manning has quietly enjoyed one of his best seasons and the Colts behind Manning & Co. could be the only team in the league that could beat the Patriots.

Honorable Mention

·    Plaxico Burress, New York Giants – It was a toss up between Manning and Burress for the sixth spot this week, nonetheless Plax came through big for the Giants in a must win game against rival Philadelphia. ‘Plaxi-glass’ had seven snags for 136 yards including the game winning touchdown catch. Burress has been hampered with an ankle injury and was questionable entering the game. You gotta love players that come up big while playing banged up…

·    Jason Witten, Dallas Cowboys – Witten has emerged as the NFC's best tight end this year and Sunday broke the Cowboy record for receptions in a game. The former Tennessee Vol had 15 catches for 138 yards and the go ahead touchdown grab with under a minute left against Detroit.

·    Randy Moss, New England – It not just Brady in New England, Moss’s record run continues as well. Moss let his play do the talking against the big-mouthed Pittsburgh Steelers secondary. Moss had seven catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns including a 65 yard bomb. Moss now has 19 touchdowns for the season and is just three behind Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice.

·    Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys – Romo the Rock Star continued the show and his Pro Bowl run with a dramatic fourth quarter comeback that has the Cowboys 12-1 for the first time in team history. Romo went 35-of-44 for 302 yards and two touchdowns, including a late touchdown drive that sealed the win for Dallas.

·    Fred Taylor, Jacksonville Jaguars – Taylor looks like he is 21 not 31 after cruising to an impressive Sunday performance. Taylor busted an 80-yard touchdown run and finished the game with 18 carries for 132 yards. Taylor gashed the Carolina Panther defense and sped past the secondary for what was at that time (Chester Taylor’s 84-yard run later in the day) the season’s longest touchdown run. Taylor is now 18th on the all-time rushing list and is nearing 1,000 yards for the season in a part-time roll. Not bad, can anyone say Pro Bowl for Taylor, I can…

·    Brandon Marshall, Denver Broncos - Marshall had one of his best performances with 10 catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns in the Broncos orange crushing of the Chiefs. Marshall literally let it rain Sunday celebrating after his first score with the Denver fans by tossing snow in the air. Marshall continues to step up in the absence of Javon Walker, and the young receiver is certainly enjoying his break out season. "It was for all my family and friends in Florida," he explained. "They don't get to see snow much. I wanted to show them snow."
