Takeo Spikes is as happy and as hungry as he's ever been, developments that bold well for Eagles' fans yet harboring thoughts of a Super Bowl for a team that has reached the post season in six of the last seven seasons. And while the ten-year veteran linebacker can relate to all the excitement shared by his newfound admirers, the run of success they've known comes as something entirely new to him. Hence, all the aforementioned vibes he's feeling. 'There's a lot of motivation for me,” says Spikes, the man Elias Sports Bureau says has played in more NFL regular season games than any other player without making a playoff appearance. Add to that the season-ending torn right Achilles tendon he suffered in 2005 and his un-Spikes like season of a year ago and you get even a greater idea of just how rearing to go the two-time Pro Bowler must truly be. “I was just starting to take my game to another level, especially the mental part” Spikes told ESPN.com of his injury. “Then when I came back last season, I couldn't do all the things that I was used to doing because my leg wasn't strong enough. Even now, I'm surprising myself with the things I'm doing on the field. It's been that long since I've done them at full strength." But all is forgiven in Philadelphia, and will be even moreso if he's able to help lead the team to where it so desperately wants to go. “I feel like I deserve this chance after 10 years in the NFL,” he says. “And I'm going to do everything I can to make it work.”
