Vick Pleads Guilty

Jim Derwin  |Aug 20,2007

Michael Vick has ended the speculation and has finally agreed to a plea agreement in his dogfighting case.  The Falcons' quarterback will plead guilty on the charges against him after consulting with attorneys and family.  This was utlimately the only decision he could make as the government was threatening to add even more charges to the case which would have been impossible to overcome in court, and therefore would've easily ended Vick's career.

As it stands now, most legal experts predict Vick will pay a $250,000 fine and serve up to one year in prison.  Once he is out, the question that remains is where will Vick play?  The Falcons could claim Vick violated his contract and could legally release him.  Based on the PR nightmare that Vick would be, and the severe distraction he would cause, I don't know what NFL team would have the balls to sign him.  If I had to make a prediction, I'd go with Minnesota as they are banking on Tavaris Jackson this season.  Should Jackson not play up to par, the Vikes may take the risk and give Vick a shot.

For now, Atlanta is going on as usual.  Joey Harrington will be the starter.  More bad news for the Falcons is back up quarterback, DJ Shockley will most likely miss the regular season with a knee injury suffered in the Falcons' pre-season win over the Buffalo Bills.
