Vikings Sign QB Kelly Holcomb From Eagles The Minnesota Vikings finally knabbed a quality backup to second year starter Tavaris Jackson in Kelly Holcomb. It was a trade between the Vikes and Philadelphia Eagles who in exchange for Holcomb received Minnesota's 6th round choice in the 2009 NFL Draft. Holcomb was all but gone from Philly anyway as he was put 4th on the depth chart for QB. This was a move that clearly needed to happen in Minneapolis as projected backup, Brooks Bollinger, has played like crap in the pre-season. In Holcomb, the Vikings are getting some veteran leadership who can teach Jackson, and someone who is already familiar with the Vikings' offense. You see, Brad Childress was Holcomb's QB coach back in Philly. So if (and when) Tavaris Jackson gets benched for poor play, there is definitely no step down by putting in Kelly Holcomb. Nice pick up, Vikes.
