Vikings Sign WR Robert Ferguson The Minnesota Vikings signed six year veteran WR Robert Ferguson to a one year $700,000 contract with performance incentives that could push his value to over $1 million. Ferguson comes from the Green Bay Packers who drafted him in the 2nd round of the 2001 NFL Draft. Plagued by injuries, Ferguson never caught a groove in Green Bay and they finally released him on Monday after he fell too far behind on their depth chart. Last season the Vikings had an obvious weakness at the WR spot. Sure they didn't have Peyton Manning throwing hammers but their #1 receiver, Troy Williamson, dropped a lot of passes which negated all the speed he has. The Vikings post a 12 man receiving corps and Ferguson instantly comes in with more experience than all of them. Former Packers, Darren Sharper and Ryan Longwell were very happy to see him and expect him to get major playing time right away. "He looked just like he did when I left from there," Sharper said, adding: "In Green Bay, he was one of the hardest workers on the team. You have to love guys like that." No question, Brad Childress loves guys like that. Childress was quoted saying, "If I didn't think he had a chance to play, I wouldn't be bringing him in here." Vikings fans will get their first look at Robert Ferguson in their pre-season game in Seattle on Saturday night.
