Rod Smith - Wide Receiver
Rod Smith - Wide Receiver Rod Smith is a great NFL story. Smith emerged from obscurity, playing his college ball at Missouri Southern, Smith fell under the radar but the Broncos snagged him as a free agent in 1994. Smith was not even drafted! Rod Smith, leads all undrafted players in NFL history in every major career receiving category and enters the 2007 season ranked 11th in overall league annals in career receptions (849), 17th in career receiving yards (11,389) and tied for 30th in career receiving touchdowns (68). Smith has posted 70 or more receptions for 9 consecutive seasons, a streak that tied for the second longest in NFL history. Smith became one of 25 players in NFL history to reach 10,000 career receiving yards in 2005, a feat he accomplished on Monday Night Football versus arch- rival Kansas City. Smith is also one of seven players in NFL history to record back-to-back 100-catch seasons.
Smith is getting to the point where each year may be his last. In 2006, Smith was plagued with a nagging hip injury and posted one of his worst seasons, statistically. Look for this Hall of Famer to step up one more time and help the Broncos once again.
