Orlando Pirates denied Platinum Stars a hat trick of wins over them when they beat the double champions 3-0 in the Absa Premiership match played at sunny Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Three first-half goals from Thandanani Ntshumayelo, Oupa Manyisa, and Daine Klate were enough to bag a revenge for Orlando Pirates over Dikwena, who beat them twice this year in a space of less than three months in two cup finals.

A win gives Olrando Pirates ten points from six matches and they will move one place up from the foot of the table while Platinum Stars will stay fifth on the log with 19 points after 13 matches.

The visitors started the better team and they almost scored barely two minutes in when Oupa Manyisa crossed from the left hand side and Ayanda Gcaba connected with the ball but the defender could not keep his header down from close range.

The early threat by Orlando Pirates showed that was not fluke as they opened the scoring in the fouth minute when Sifiso Myeni found Kermit Erasmus inside the area and the striker crossed low for Thandanani Ntshumayelo to poke in from close range and give the visitors the 1-0 lead.

Three minutes later, Telkom Knockout Cup final hero Mogakolodi Ngele did well to get past few Orlando Pirates bodies but his final shot from range went well wide of the mark. The Buccaneers thought they scored the second when Erasmus beat the offside trap and scored easily but the lines-man was not spot-on as he misjudged the striker to be offside.

The Johannesburg side never gave up on getting the second goal and they got found it in the 17th minute when Kermit Erasmus broke free on the left-hand flank and found Oupa Manyisa unmarked inside the area whose shot found the roof of the net.

Robert Ng’ambi almost pulled one back for Platinum Stars when he made a fantastic turn in the edge of the area but his left-footed strike sailed over bar in the 28th minutes.

It was three for Orlando Pirates four minute later and it was Kermit Erasmus again who provided after catching the host on the counter and made a run to goals before finding Daine Klate who was unmarked inside the area and the winger coolly side-foot shot past Siyabonga Mpontshane to make sure his side head to the half-time break with a 3-0 lead.

The second-half never produced clear-cut chances just like the opening half. But the visitors never stop piling pressure on Platinum Stars and they were unlucky not to score in the opening ten minutes of the match when Dikwena goalkeeper Siyabinga Mpontshane made two blunders but Orlando Pirates failed to capitalise from them.

Approaching the hour mark, Platinum Stars coach Allen Freese made a double change bringing on Thabani Mthembu and Sifiso Msomi as the hosts looked to reduce the three goal deficit. In the 67th minute, Kermit Erasmus almost made it 4-0 to Orlando Pirates when he unleashed a long range strike that went just wide of the mark before forcing Siyabonga Mpontshane into a great save moments later.

Then with 12 minutes to play Kermit Erasmus had another chance to put his name on the score sheet when he was found in the good space by a low cross from Daine Klate but Platinum Stars ‘keeper Siyabonga Mpontshane came off his line to make a save and concede a corner.

Mogakolodi Ngele tested Senzo Meyiwa with a long range shot two minutes later but the Orlando Pirates goalkeeper was equal to the test as he turned the ball out for corner as that effort was the last chance of the match as the Buccaneers registers their third win of the season.
