Argentine Primera Division Wrap: Lanus drop points
Apr 30, 2013 2:43 PM GMT
Lanus missed the chance to return to the top of the Argentine Primera Division on Monday when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Atletico Rafaela.
Newell's Old Boys had moved three points clear on top of the table thanks to their 4-3 victory over Racing Club on Sunday, but Lanus could have returned to the summit on goal difference with a win at home over Rafaelo.
It was not to be, however, with Rafaela's Jonathan Lopez scoring just before half-time to cancel out Carlos Izquierdoz's early opener for Lanus.
Newell's Old Boys, meanwhile, needed a 92nd-minute winner from Maximiliano Rodriguez to take the three points at home against Racing, who had a hat-trick from Luciano Vietto to thank for keeping them in the game.
The Old Boys lead the Primera Division by two points from Lanus, with River Plate – who drew 1-1 with Quilmes on Sunday – a further two points behind in third place.
In Saturday results, San Lorenzo drew 1-1 with Godoy Cruz, while Boca Juniors suffered another loss – their fourth of the campaign so far – 1-0 at Estudiantes to leave them third from the bottom after 11 games.
San Martin San Juan were 3-1 winners over Union Santa Fe, with substitute Claudio Riano scoring a late brace for the winners, and Colon were too good for Arsenal, winning 1-0.
Independiente defeated Argentinos Juniors 3-1 on Sunday, while on Monday All Boys climbed to eighth place with a 1-0 victory at Belgrano.
