Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has joined Championship side Leeds United on a one-month loan, with a view to a permanent deal.

The 19-year-old has joined the Championship outfit in an effort to aid their push for a playoff place, with Leeds sitting eighth – just two points off sixth-placed Watford.

Neil Warnock's side have a local derby against Barnsley on Saturday, with Barkley available for selection.

"I'm absolutely delighted to get Ross and I'd like to welcome him to the club. He had four other clubs after him so I'm delighted he's come to us," Warnock said.

"I've wanted to sign him for a long time now, I remember watching him when he played for Everton against QPR in the Premier League.

"He's got a great attitude and I have no doubt that he will end up a top player.

"The deal works well for both parties as he will gain experience here and he is a great addition to our squad."

Earlier this season, Barkley enjoyed a successful two-month spell at Sheffield Wednesday, playing 13 times and scoring four goals.

Barkley has found top-flight appearances hard to come by this season with just two substitute appearances for Everton this term, the most recent of which came during the defeat to Chelsea on December 28.
