Dec 03, 2012 4:02 PM GMT
Atletico Mineiro won their final clash in Brazil's Serie A on Sunday with a pulsating 3-2 victory over nine-man Cruzeiro.
In what was virtually a dead-rubber final round of fixtures with all the relegation and Copa Libertadores spots assured, both sides went down to 10 men early in the second half.
Ronaldinho missed a penalty in the first half but scored in the second to help Atletico finish second in the league after Leandro Donizete and Tinga were sent off for Atletico and Cruzeiro respectively.
Everton had put Cruzeiro 2-1 up early in the second half but a 75th-minute strike from Rever capped off a fine season for Atletico as Cruzeiro were reduced to nine men in the final minute.
Champions Fluminense suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Vasco da Gama courtesy of an Eder Luis brace.
Sport Recife had an unrealistic mathematical chance of avoiding relegation but that was dashed with a 1-0 defeat at Nautico.
Maicon scored twice for fourth-placed Sao Paulo in a 3-1 win over Corinthians with both sides reduced to 10 men.
Gremio and Internacional drew 0-0 as did Portuguesa and Ponte Preta, while Coritiba accounted for Figueirense 3-0 and Bahia picked up all three points at Atletico GO with a 1-0 victory.
Fluminense, Atletico Mineiro and Gremio had already sewn up the three Copa Liberdatores qualification spots, while Sao Paulo were locked in fourth and will need to qualify for the tournament.
Sport Recife, Palmeiras, Atletico GO and Figueirense were relegated.
