Orlando Pirates failed to make possession pay as they were held to a 0-0 draw in the CAF Champions League semi-final first leg by ES Tunis.
The visitors threatened early on but had to soak up a lot of pressure to secure the draw ahead of the second leg in Tunisia later this month.
Yannick N'Djeng threatened for Tunis in the opening 10 minutes but he could not beat Senzo Meyiwa in the Pirates goal.
His first effort looked destined for the top corner, however he fired just over the bar from the edge of the penalty area.
When he broke through again in the 10th minute he could not direct his strike away from the goalkeeper's grasp.
The home side's first sight of goal came in the 36th minute through Sifiso Myeni, but the midfielder misdirected his header wide of goal after a perfect cross from Daine Klate.
A lack of finishing was letting the Pirates down, and midfielder Oupa Manyisa was guilty of missing two late chances for the hosts.
However, he fired both efforts well wide of Tunis' goal and did not cause Moez Ben Chrifia any concern.
Tunis nearly took a first-leg victory back to Tunisia but Shammam curled a well-placed free-kick just wide of Meyiwa's goal.
With time running out, Thabo Matlaba had a great chance to winner for the Pirates but his powerful strike was well dealt with by Ben Chrifia.
