Mogi Mirim will head into the playoffs in good form after edging league leaders Sao Paulo 1-0 on the final day of the regular season.
Dado Cavalcante's men were unbeaten in six matches prior to Sunday's meeting and they continued that run of form courtesy of Roger Gaucho's 41st-minute effort.
Mirim ended the regular season just two points adrift of Sao Paulo, who suffered their second defeat on the bounce.
Defending champions Santos consolidated third position with a 2-1 win over eighth-placed Penapolense, who secured a spot in the knockout stages after rivals Linense lost 3-0 to relegated Mirassol.
Elsewhere on Sunday, fourth-placed Ponte Preta played out a goalless draw with Bragantino and Corinthians accounted for Atletico Sorocaba 2-0.
Palmeiras were beaten 2-1 at Ituano, who avoided relegation by two points, and seventh-placed Botafogo were on the receiving end of a hefty 4-1 defeat against XV de Piracicaba
Meanwhile, relegated trio Uniao Barbarense, Sao Caetano and Guarani played their final games in Paulista's top division.
Barbarense beat cellar-dwellers Guarani 3-1 but it was not enough to avoid relegation, finishing three points adrift of safety.
Sao Caetano lost 2-0 at home to Paulista, who ended the season two points clear of the drop zone, while Sao Bernardo trounced lowly Oeste 4-0.
