Campeonato Paulista wrap: Mogi Mirim rout Botafogo
By Football News
Mogi Mirim advanced to the semi-finals thanks to a resounding 6-0 victory over Botafogo, who finished the match with eight men on Saturday.
Defender Tiago Alves opened the scoring for the hosts just 10 minutes into the match before Botafogo's Cris saw red on the hour-mark.
Mirim made the most of their numerical advantage with Val doubling the team's advantage after Roni missed his penalty moments earlier.
Henrique got on the scoresheet in the 74th minute and two minutes later Roni redeemed himself following his earlier miss.
And within three minutes it was five for Mirim as Henrique netted his second of the game, much to the delight of the home faithful.
It went from bad to worse for Botafogo, when Giovanni saw red in the 82nd minute and Henrique quickly completed his hat-trick with 11 minutes remaining.
Botafogo striker Nunes was also sent from the field for a second bookable offence deep into injury-time, capping a miserable outing for Oswaldo de Oliveira's men.
In Saturday's other result, Santos beat Palmeiras 4-2 on penalties to reach the last four.
Palmeiras' Kleber sent the match to extra-time with an 84th-minute equaliser after Cicero had given Santos a first-half lead.
Neither side could make the breakthrough in extra-time, sending the quarter-final clash to penalties, which Santos won.
